Little Red Riding Hood is going through the forest on the way to take
some food to her ailing grandmother.
When the wolf stops her and makes his plan to make Grandma and Little Red
his dinner, he doesn’t realize that Little Red is smarter than him. Little Red looks in the window of Grandma’s
house and sees the wolf. She comes up
with her own plan to beat the wolf.
This
book has fantastic illustrations done in black, red and white. Little Red is a smart and spunky character
whose eyes tell half the story. In the
end, she beats the wolf and makes a wolf coat.
My boys thought this book was funny, and my daughter thought it was
a bit creepy. It is on the darker side (Little Red holding an ax--unsettling, making a wolf coat--not child's play), but I thought it was a creative take on an old classic. Definitely one you want to read before you decide to put it in your library.
